چکیده

Human speech provides a natural and intuitive interface for both communicating with humanoid robots as well as for teaching them. In general, the acoustic pattern of speech contains three kinds of information: who the speaker is, what the speaker said, and how the speaker said it. This paper focuses on the question of recognizing affective communicative intent in robot-directed speech. We present an approach for recognizing four distinct prosodic patterns that communicate praise, prohibition, attention, and comfort to preverbal infants. These communicative intents are well matched to teaching a robot since praise, prohibition, and directing the robot’s attention to relevant aspects of a task, could be used by a human instructor to intuitively facilitate the robot’s learning process. We integrate this perceptual ability into our robot’s ”emotion” system, thereby allowing a human to directly manipulate the robot’s affective state. This has a powerful organizing influence on the robot’s behavior, and will ultimately be used to socially communicate affective reinforcement. Communicative efficacy has been tested with people very familiar with the robot as well as with nave subjects.

Baby Ears: a recognition system for affective vocalizations

1 VOCAL AFFECT The goal of a new field of study known as affective computing is to design machines that understand and respond to human emotions [9]. There is a range of information available for the development of a human–machine interface based on emotion. Locally, we can monitor physiological measures of human emotional state, or we can judge at a distance using visual or vocal expressions o...

Robot Arm Performing Writing through Speech Recognition Using Dynamic Time Warping Algorithm

This paper aims to develop a writing robot by recognizing the speech signal from the user. The robot arm constructed mainly for the disabled people who can’t perform writing on their own. Here, dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm is used to recognize the speech signal from the user. The action performed by the robot arm in the environment is done by reducing the redundancy which frequently fac...

Multimodal intent recognition for natural human-robotic interaction

The research questions posed for this work were as follows: • Can speech recognition and techniques for topic spotting be used to identify spoken intent in unconstrained natural speech? • Can gesture recognition systems based on statistical speech recognition techniques be used to bridge the gap between physical movements and recognition of gestural intent? • How can speech and gesture be combi...

Getting to the Point: The Influence of Communicative Intent on the Kinematics of Pointing Gestures

In everyday communication, people not only use speech but also hand gestures to convey information. One intriguing question in gesture research has been why gestures take the specific form they do. Previous research has identified the speaker-gesturer’s communicative intent as one factor shaping the form of iconic gestures. Here we investigate whether communicative intent also shapes the form o...

Eye'm talking to you: speakers' gaze direction modulates co-speech gesture processing in the right MTG.

Recipients process information from speech and co-speech gestures, but it is currently unknown how this processing is influenced by the presence of other important social cues, especially gaze direction, a marker of communicative intent. Such cues may modulate neural activity in regions associated either with the processing of ostensive cues, such as eye gaze, or with the processing of semantic...
